GOOGLE HAS ITS LIMITS

I asked Google whether I can produce geometric diagrams using WORD [this is for next week's lecture on the Transcendental Aesthetic.]  Sure enough, up popped a link to a video with the answer -- IN ARABIC!!!

I shall continue to look.

Google has very good translators. I don't know if they can translate a video for you, but they will do a good job with a text in Arabic.

You can do some basic drawing tasks in Word. The first key is to make sure your document is saved in a recent format of Word. If your file is saved as a .doc file, then when you edit the file you're in "compatibility mode". Save as .docx and you'll have access to some more features.

Having said that, you're probably still better off doing your drawing with a specialized drawing tool, such as Paint or Visio (if you have it) and then importing it into Word after saving as a .png or .gif.

Google translate is rubbish for Arabic.

I'm Palestinian.

Anonymous,

Thanks. I can tell all of you from personal experience that Google translate works very well for Russian.

I suppose being both indoeuropean languages it would mean less work for google translate. But Arabic into English becomes entirely unintelligible.

Try translating Dutch or German into English - it becomes almost fully readable.

My ex partner's father, a Communist leader, was disappeared by the Pinochet dictatorship in 1976, but while studying in the Soviet Union at Lumumba University, he fathered a child. The mother kept in contact with the father's family in Chile, and recently through Facebook, the Chilean family got to know their sister in Russia, now almost 50 years old, all through Google translate since they know no Russian and their sister knows no Spanish or even English. Just a month ago the Russian sister came to Chile and through Google translate in their phones, they conversed for two weeks, made friends and enjoyed themselves immensely. All my best and my support for the Palestinian cause.
