I call your attention to the Columbia speech I posted on box.net. If you set to one side pro basketball players or big league orchestra musicians, most people really have very little idea what constitutes doing a job well. So the Ivy League degree is a substitute for that knowledge.Robert Paul Wolffhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11970360952872431856noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5687347459208158501.post-42842654627304487432011-11-09T14:39:53.279-05:002011-11-09T14:39:53.279-05:00Professor Wolff –

Much like people who speak with a British accent, many Americans simply assume that graduates from the elite schools are smarter than those who graduate from non-elite schools – and thus offer them the jobs before all others (no offense to the British accent speakers out there).Jimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00826600172627425879noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5687347459208158501.post-44726797245474160932011-11-09T02:56:31.006-05:002011-11-09T02:56:31.006-05:00Also, some hopeful news in Ohio election results t...Also, some hopeful news in Ohio election results tonight.James R MacLeanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14721224895163793981noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5687347459208158501.post-55208949131714526792011-11-09T02:55:30.251-05:002011-11-09T02:55:30.251-05:00Great post.

I have always thought I had a right to it, since all my degrees are from Harvard, and I had tenure at Columbia before I left [in 1971] to go to UMass.
