I should like to apologize publicly for my bad behavior. I just received a call from some Republican organization [do not ask me how I got on their call list.] A sweet young thing who sounded about twelve began by asking me very politely whether I thought that President Obama, Harry Reid, and Nancy Pelosi should use my tax money for their socialist schemes. I said, "yes, I do." There was a pause, as she frantically leafed through her call script looking for the correct response to this clearly unexpected answer. Things went downhill from there. I told her I was pleased that she had a job, unlike all those folks whose unemployment insurance was being blocked by Senator Bunning. So it went, until she came to a place in her script where she could get off the phone.
Why do I behave so badly? you may ask. I am afraid I am so angry that I have forgotten my manners. Sigh. I suppose if I had gone to a good parochial school instead of P. S. 117 in Queens, the nuns would have beaten better manners into me. Religion does have its uses.
I get the same profound disbelief when I answer "yes" to the question, "Shall we raise taxes...."
ReplyDeleteReligion didn't help me.....! Try better discipline at home....
:-)
I love doing that to those callers. I do the same to the National Democratic Party committees that want me to give to the national organization, to which I say, and support the Nelson Boys or Blanche Lincoln in the Senate, or Stupak in the House? Are you kidding me? I then say I support individual Democratic Party candidates depending upon whether they are really Democrats, as opposed to Republicans posing as Democrats like the aforementioned. They get so flummoxed because somehow it's not in their script that anyone will answer that way...Strange they don't prepare them for folks who won't take b.s.
ReplyDeleteIt is mean spirited of us, but fun. You have to take your jollies where you can find them. But how on earth did I get on their database? Maybe that Florida felon is a Republican!
ReplyDeleteYour mobile phone service provider most likely sold your(along with a bundle of thousands of others) details. Just a guess as they`re generally biggest culprits over here
ReplyDeleteBy the 3d or 4th phone poll it's no longer fun, I routinely screen all calls because I don't have the heart to take it out on the enthusiastic naifs who make them.
ReplyDeleteAh, Brenda, you are a larger souled person than I, I suspect -- either that, or you are just more experienced. Do they cold call everyone, or is there some secret in my past that has got me put on the Republicans' call list? It gives one pause.
ReplyDeleteI will admit that filling out their dopey questionaires just to force them to spend the postage on the return envelope soon grows stale.
You can cause them financial grief by stuffing those envelopes with flattened cans or other debris. That's mean but not personal.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, organizations sometimes flood zipcodes of likely political persuasion because of their income/educational level.
