A WORD FROM THE UPPER SOUTH

Today marks the end of a celebration at Shaw University in Raleigh, NC of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee -- the legendary SNCC. Several of my former colleagues were there, together with two wonderful Afro-American Studies doctoral students, Jennifer Jensen-Wallach and Rita Reynolds, both of whom now have solid tenure track jobs teaching Black history. I have just one thing to say about the conference: THERE IS NOTHING, I REPEAT NOTHING, THAT THE TEA PARTY MOVEMENT HAS IN COMMON WITH SNCC, SCLC, CORE, AND THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT.

  1. Bob, I feel a tear coming on!
You are still a lovely person.

So, what are you going to do about the Tea Party nuts out there?
