Yesterday evening, Susie and I had dinner with two old friends, Anne and Philip, both of whom are professional simultaneous translators. Philip told us that a day or so ago, he served as the translator of President Sarkozy on a phone call with President Obama. Needless to say, he could not tell us anything either one of them said, but he assured me that Sarkozy is quite fluent in French, and that Obama's English is also quite good. That is more than anyone could have said for our last President. If I get any more inside information, I will be sure to pass it along.
