SIGH

Oh well. I did not have anything very deep in mind in my last post. I was just enchanted with the idea of a forger who went around donating his forgeries to museums instead of trying to sell them. It seemed rather sweet and charming. Henceforward, I shall stick to economic statistics and ideological fulminations.

  1. No, no. I liked the article a lot.

I was interested in the forger's motivations. One possibility is a desire to be recognized as a museum-worthy painter. Recognition is an underestimated feature of social life. To get a handle on it, I turn to Continental Philosophy.

The other factor would have to include a love of the art itself. This love ends up harming the artist who is misrepresented to an interested audience.

  2. Or it could have been an elaborate, and hilarious, joke.
