ADDENDUM

David Palmeter reminds me that there are important races this year that we need to win, without waiting for 2018.  This is, I think, of great importance, because it gives us all something to work on now.  It also creates the possibility for the building of momentum.  Now is a good time to donate to any early faces that are going.  Remember, early money is like yeast [the origin of the acronym Emily's List].

  1. There is an even earlier election--a special election April 18 to fill the seat Price resigned to join Trump's cabinet and ruin Obamacare. I have no idea of the Democrats' chances--probably slim to none--but even if that is the case, it would very important for the Democrats to do significantly better than usual in the district.

  2. Jon Ossof is a former John Lewis staffer and is going to run for this election. Apparently the district only went for Trump by one point (48-47) even though it is usually deep red. Daily Kos has already raised a couple hundred thousand for the guy.

  3. Indeed, I have given him some money, but I could not recall his name.

  4. I've just joined you in conributing. I've also posted this on Facebook:

"The House seat for the 6th District of Georgia has become vacant with the confirmation of Rep. Tom Price as Secretary of HHS, where he will do his best to destroy Obamacare, Medicare, and Medicaid, so he can gleefully celebrate the resulting deaths of thousands of people as a result.

A special election will be held in April to choose his successor. The district traditionally has been conservative. Romney won it against Obama 61-37. But Trump won it by only 48-47, a 23 point drop from Romney. The seat clearly is contestable.

A candidate for the Democratic nomination is Jon Ossoff, an investigative filmmaker and a former staffer of Rep. John Lewis, who has supported his bid. Lewis’s endorsement is enough for me.

Wouldn’t it be great if, in the first Congressional election held since Trump’s victory, a Democrat took the seat vacated by a Republican named to Trump’s cabinet?

  5. One more pebble:

ACLU shared a draft executive action that --

"..authorizes, and promotes religiously-motivated discrimination against
same-sex couples, transgender people, and people seeking reproductive
health care." .. based on religious freedom!

That had a form letter to the President through their ACLU ACT which I signed and sent.
