SOME HELPFUL FACTS TO GO WITH MY MAUNDERINGS
This primer from DailyKos on the various organizations [DNC, DCCC, DSCC, DLC] that raise money for and organize for the election of Democrats is quite helpful. The bottom line is that it is always better to give directly to individual candidates. It is worth a few moments' reading time.
It's sound advice. One word of warning about contributing through DailyKos, however. DailyKos, like many sites, has a desktop site, and a mobile site. Where contributions are concerned (and not only contributions), the sites work differently.
ReplyDeleteIf you contribute to a candidate through DailyKos on their desktop site, just before submitting payment you'll be notified that 50% of your contribution will go to DailyKos and the remainder to the candidate. You'll be given the opportunity to adjust the amounts.
But, if you contribute to a candidate through DailyKos on their mobile site, the 50% split is either not visible or not obvious, and you either will not be given the choice to adjust the allocation, or that will not be obvious either, until after you've sent the funds. (I think it's the former, but in case I'm mistaken, I'm indulging in a little craven hedging). Let's just say, in the words of a recent POTUS, fool me once...uh you cain't fool me again.
