VERY SERIOUS

We are at a perilous moment vis-a-vis North Korea.  I am not interested in apportioning blame, of which there is a great deal to go around.  That can come later.  None of us at this point can do anything other than hope that there is not a war, in which huge numbers of people would die.

Do you think Trump really is in charge? What does it look like in the White House? Can you imagine?

We can also patiently correct people when the media inflate things even more by claiming an ICBM test. From the available information this was an IRBM, still very serious but well short of "California and Oregon will be nuked!" level of panic.

Blind fear mongering may be profitable (for those selling it) in the short-term but will not help us resolve anything.

I totally agree; and it appears to me that Trump is planning to attack.

Chomsky has made a good point, which is: the one thing US planners have not done is to respond to NK's demand
that the US promise not to attack, which would go a long way toward de-escalating the situation.

I spent 2 years in the Republic of Korea in the early 70s as an intel officer with the Air Force. The country, then, was incredibly , if not shockingly poor. One can only imagine what North Korea was like after the US ran out of targets to bomb during the Korean war. The saber rattling by Trump - not really challenged by Democrats and the pundits, is insane.
