Today is my eighty-fourth birthday. Yesterday I had an MRI on my spine and brain. If the test confirms that I have a spine and a brain, then I shall continue to fight for justice and equality for a good many more years. I have decided, provisionally, to slow down when I hit one hundred, but that could change if the times call for it.
Let me take this opportunity to thank all of you who have followed this blog for the past nine years, either commenting or lurking [as I believe the current cant has it]. You have all kept me young in spirit, if not in years.

ReplyDeleteI want to take this opportunity to thank you for what you do. When I first discovered that you had a blog (back when you were a still a strapping 76 years old) it has continued to provide me with ongoing daily inspiration. Since my days as a UMass undergrad, I continue to look to you (as well as Noam Chomsky and others) as not simply academic mentors but life mentors (since I take this stuff seriously). My hope: Don't ease up at 100. We need all the inspiration and motivation we can get -- especially as we all age along with you everyday. I think that it is a safe bet that most readers of this blog would agree with me. Our best choice is to keep moving forward. Keep fighting for justice, keep learning, keep up the struggle. Although the struggle will continue after we are gone, we can still contribute something now. That is one of the many lessons I have learned from you. There are still people out there who need to learn. More people to teach. Your voice matters. Thank you.
