WELL, THAT'S OK THEN
Michael Wolff's book or at least the snippets from it quoted on TV, had me worried about our president, but today, in an impromptu press conference, he set matters to right. "My two greatest assets have been mental stability and being, like, really smart," he said. So we can stop worrying.
Credit for the most apposite movie reference goes to David Frum in the Atlantic: '“I can handle things. I’m smart! Not like everybody says, like dumb. I’m smart and I want respect!”; Fredo Corleone in The Godfather.
ReplyDeleteOf course there used to be speculations in the Press about which of the President's hopeless sons was the real Fredo. But the truth appears to be that it is family wholly composed of Fredos. They can't even rise to a Connie (well Tiffany perhaps).
And how did Fredo end up?
ReplyDeleteBill Maher beat David Frum to the punch with the Fredo reference back during the campaign, after T***p said “I’m, like, a smart person” during an interview with Fox News.
ReplyDeleteI wonder: Was the “like, a smart person” locution in the latest tweet an ironic wink at that interview? As in, he gets teased by his kids for saying that so he dropped it into a tweet to poke fun at himself? Is the man capable of that level of self-effacement?

ReplyDeleteNo.
You’re probably right, LFC. It’s just that “like” is used as a speech-filler. Odd that someone would write it down. But considering the source...
