I am officially an anarchist, so I shouldn't care about the formal rituals of representative government, but I just finished watching Adam Schiff exhibit the articles of impeachment to the Senate and I was moved by the seriousness of the occasion and by the excavation of old formalities.
As for Lev Parnas, all I can say is that Joe Pesci has one more big role ahead of him.
Generally what moves people has not so much to do with their adult rational political or moral positions, but with childhood associations. I'm a complete atheist, but I can be moved by some aspects of the Jewish ritual, and I haven't set foot in a synagogue since the last time my parents forced me to go, almost 60 years ago. I'm anti-imperialist, but the song "Rule Britannia" moves me, I guess because of associations with my mother who was an anglophile in a very traditionalist way.
ReplyDeleteYour "officially an anarchist" is wonderfully funny!
