SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT

There is something that has been eating away at me for a long time now, and I have decided on this stormy Monday morning, when I cannot go for my early walk, to get it off my chest.  It has nothing to do with COVID-19, or with Trump, or with Bernie and Biden.  It does not even have anything to do with the comment by Anonymous, about which more later.  It concerns something the estimable David Palmeter said.

Two weeks ago I posted a brief comment about my struggle to raise my FreeCell win percentage to 97.5, and Palmeter remarked that his win percentage was 99.  But he uses the undo facility, and takes back moves when he loses, trying again until he wins.  Now, I freely admit that I do that in Spider Solitaire, although never beyond the point of a new deal of cards.  BUT I NEVER, EVER, DO AN UNDO IN FREECELL.  This is not the first time I have stated this.  I said it also on October 12, 2015, as I am sure you all recall.

There.  Now I feel better.

  1. Magnificent. A better expression of the pre-established harmony I do not know.

  2. RPW isn't the only one "having to come clean"...

I think it is noteworthy in this very partisan world to see that progressives and "very conservative" Republicans can come to an agreement about "transparency".

Is this the first flower of spring? Probably not. But I'm an eternal optimist.

  3. And you're a much better Free Cell player than I am! My preference is to consider myself dogged and determined--if at first you don't succeed....

  4. Having once been addicted to TETRIS, I quit all computer/video games. I do like shuffling and dealing of cards for a game of solitaire. Unfortunately, backgammon is no fun when playing against yourself.

Today's Washington Post has story about the allegations of sexual assault against Biden.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/sexual-assault-allegation-by-former-biden-senate-aide-emerges-in-campaign-draws-denial/2020/04/12/bc070d66-7067-11ea-b148-e4ce3fbd85b5_story.html

It's a long story: begins on page one and consumes an entire inner page. In sum, it's inconclusive, but calls the allegations into serious question. She sounds somewhat disturbed. Among other things, she admires Vladimir Putin as a compassionate man. Who knew?

    Here's one paragraph:

So, assuming the allegations are, however, true we're likely to be left with the choice of choosing which sexual assailant we prefer to be in the White House. For me, that's an easy choice.

  6. I tried to copy and paste the paragraph. Here's a try at pasting from a Word documet:

  7. Well, that's frustrating. Let's try this:

"The former vice president has been accused of unwanted hugging and other physical contact, but The Post found no other allegations against him as serious as Reade's. More than a dozen women, by contrast, have accused Trump of forced kissing, groping or sexual assault, and he has been recorded on audio boasting about grabbing women between their legs."

  8. How is Biden expected to do any of those Presidential grabbings in his present state of cognitive decline? Really. The #metoo cohort protests too much. (That Shakespearean reference should not be lost in the readership here.) Not to mention Cephalus in Book I of the Republic. Such fatuously self-indulgent bores. They're decades past it and act like teenagers
