THE OLD GUY ASKS FOR SOME TECH HELP

I have recorded a video on my iPhone which is too large to send as an attachment.  I want to store it in the cloud and make it available to family or friends. Can anybody explain to me in simple language how I can do that? Thank you one and all.

  1. I am not very familiar with the Apple ecosphere, but you can upload a video to Youtube and set the visibility to Unlisted, which means you have to have the link already to see it. Then you get send the link to whomever you want to see the video. It doesn't stop people from sending the link on to others who can view it but it's not findable via search.

I've done that to share videos with family before.

  2. Here is a link to the iCloud User Guide entry on how to share a link to a video stored in iCloud. I've never done it but it looks simple from the instructions provided.

    https://support.apple.com/guide/icloud/share-photos-and-videos-mm93a9b98683/icloud

If that doesn't help, call Apple Support (1-800-275-2273) and a rep will walk you through it. This is what I do when I can't figure something out. They have always resolved my issue graciously.

  3. To Trim the video into two halves:

    1. Open the Photos app and tap the video that you want to edit.
    2. Tap Edit.
    3. Move the sliders on both sides of the video timeline to change the start and stop
times. To preview your trimmed video, tap the play button .
    4. Tap Done, then tap and Save Video as New Clip.

Do this for each half of the video and save each separately.

  4. Use gmail to email them the video. If it is too large to be an email attachment (>25mb, I believe), gmail will automatically upload the video to google drive and include a link to the recipient in the email.

  7. There are several ways to accomplish this (but don't fart around editing the video). The easiest is A.K.'s recipe just above. Wetransfer is a great service and they've made it user-friendly.

  8. The Oral Argument on the constitutionality of the Mississippi statute which prohibits abortions after 15 weeks is currently underway. To its credit, Fox News was broadcasting the oral argument live. Justice Sotomayor effectively grilled the Mississippi Solicitor General on the concept of viability, and the scientific evidence that an fetus can feel pain before the cerebral cortex has formed. J. Breyer likewise grilled the Solicitor General on the principle of stare decisis and under what circumstances Supreme Court precedent may be overturned. I did not hear any questions from Justices Alito, Kavanaugh or Gorsuch while I was listening.

You can hear the full argument later today by going to https://www.supremecourt.gov/oral_arguments/argument_audio/2021
