TEACHING DAY

This afternoon, I will give my last lecture on the thought of Karl Marx in my course at UNC Chapel Hill. The reading assigned for today is my unpublished paper “The Future of Socialism.” I will try to summarize what I have said over the past seven weeks by talking about the three big things that Marx got right and the three big things that he got wrong.

Next week, I start talking about the thought of Sigmund Freud and I am going to try something that I have never done before. I will have the students watch the four YouTube lectures on Freud that I posted five years ago and then I will try to develop a classroom discussion based on them. I have absolutely no idea how this is going to work out but it seemed to me absurd to deliver essentially the same lectures in class when they were already recorded and available on YouTube.

Meanwhile, I continue with the help of Alex Campbell to convert my file of unpublished papers into computer files and I will post a number of them on this blog as time goes on.

Sounds like a very good idea for the Freud segment of the class.
