A MAJOR DISCOVERY THAT I WISH TO SHARE WITH MY FELLOW SUPERANNUATED TYPES

Playing with my iPhone, I discovered that on it I can listen to news clips from the various cable news channels. The picture is rather small but the sound is splendid. Who knew? I thought I would share this information with others of my generation. Do you suppose young people know about this?

  1. The most relevant question is: can you imagine them ever using this feature?

  2. Given the existence of Wash Post, NYT, PBS NewsHour, BBC, Reuters, various non-English sources (depending on one's linguistic facility) and various specialized news sites (and blogs), I'm not sure why anyone would choose cable news channels as a news source. But then I never watch them, so maybe they're better than I suppose.

  3. P.s. I guess it's a quick way to get breaking news assuming one has either an iPhone or a cable subscription.

  6. Someone once gave me an i-pad and a plug-in keyboard so I wouldn't have to haul my laptop to the library. I never could so much as figure out how to turn it on; I guess it's in the back of a closet somewhere. But it's all relative: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQHX-SjgQvQ&ab_channel=NRK

  7. Apologies for the off-topic but somewhat south of here there was some criticism of Biden for screwing over railroad workers on sick leave in the then recent agreement. NSM it seems:

“We’re thankful that the Biden administration played the long game on sick days and stuck with us for months after Congress imposed our updated national agreement,” Russo said. “Without making a big show of it, Joe Biden and members of his administration in the Transportation and Labor departments have been working continuously to get guaranteed paid sick days for all railroad workers."
