THE LIMITS OF SATIRE

What can you say about a Black serial sexual harasser named Cain whose signature economic plan is the inverted sign of Satan and whose principal claim to fame is a stint as CEO of a company named "Godfather's Pizza?" if I worked at The Onion, I would throw in the towel.

  1. What about his signature phrase, "I don't have facts to back this up, but..." or its variant: "We do not have definitive, factual proof"? Somewhat seriously, is Cain the sort of symptom of democracy Plato was criticizing? It seems he and his followers ignore facts and only follow their desires. I'm grasping at straws since it is too strange for me to understand and seems near madness.

  2. Plato's view that the merchant class is incompetent to rule is the part of his doctrine that most immediately applies to Cain.
