Jerry Fresia, who comments on this blog from time to time, sent me this link to a first-rate piece by Joan Walsh along the lines of my explanation of why the Tea Partiers hate Obama so hysterically.  She goes back as far as the Southern Strategy that elected Nixon and Reagan and the Bushes.  I recommend it as a supplement to my historical account.
