I first encountered Brad De Long at the ill-fated fiftieth anniversary for Social Studies at Harvard, where I broke a lance, as they say, in the matter of honoring the odious Martin Peretz [regular readers may recall my discussion of that affair.] De Long was on the program.
Brad DeLong has a long history of bullying and looking down on people who are anything he perceives to be "left of him".
ReplyDeleteI thought Tom Walker (Sandwichman) had a nice defense of you on Brad's blog. Apropos of that defense, and his mutual dislike of Paul Samuelson, is a picture of Tom from his blog with a Samuelson puppet on a sandwich board: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SObet-cHkcE/Tps0D4e8dkI/AAAAAAAAAdc/VWHFezxI7Zw/s1600/IMG_0124.jpg
Brad De Long's youtube videos on Marx are god awful straw men and he should be ashamed to have them up.
ReplyDeleteDeLong is a crazed Chomsky hater. Here's something as boring, superficial and angry as the rest of them: http://delong.typepad.com/sdj/brad-delong-october-23-1998-my-allergic-reaction-to-noam-chomsky.html
ReplyDeleteBrad deleted my defense, which just mentioned the TSSI system...
ReplyDeleteOn the Chomsky haters, this is a propos:

He does have a complex, as Mr. Westrich says, about those on the actual left.
"... he should be ashamed ..."
ReplyDeleteIs that even possible for people like him? You are, after all, assuming he is capable of self-doubt.
