REQUEST FOR HELP

Can anyone tell me what this means:

Following the announcement of Google+ API deprecation scheduled for March 2019, a number of changes will be made to Blogger’s Google+ integration on 4 February 2019.

Google+ widgets: Support for the “+1 Button”, “Google+ Followers” and “Google+ Badge” widgets in Layout will no longer be available. All instances of these widgets will be removed from your blog.

+1 buttons: The +1/G+ buttons and Google+ share links below blog posts and in the navigation bar will be removed.

Please note that if you have a custom template that includes Google+ features, you may need to update your template. Please contact your template supplier for advice.

Google+ Comments: Support for Google+ comments will be turned down, and all blogs using Google+ comments will be reverted back to using Blogger comments. Unfortunately, comments posted as Google+ comments cannot be migrated to Blogger and will no longer appear on your blog.

It popped up when I clicked on my blog.

What in the world does that mean?

Google+ was Google's attempt to "disrupt" the "social media space" and replicate Facebook within it's own network of apps (gmail, blogger, chat, etc.) Google+ failed horribly, so now Google is taking a loss on Google+ and winding down the platform - which apparently involves extracting Google+ from the rest of the Google ecosystem.

You probably don't need to worry about it. As the anonymous comment above says, very few people actually used Google Plus, which is why they're shutting it down. Your blog will still stay active, and unless you're using G+ to edit it (and you would probably know if you were), nothing should change.

Whew. That's a relief. Now, about those Patriots...

It probably means that some comments will vanish from your past posts. How many will vanish? Who knows. I comment with my "Google Account" - I have no idea whether that entails Google+.

Google+ is (rather, was) not the same as a plain vanilla Google account. One had to affirmatively opt in to the + service.

The last part of the announcement, as mesnenor says, appears to mean that comments posted via Google+ accounts will disappear from your past posts/threads.

Mesnenor asks "How many will vanish?" My impression is that several commenters used Google+ to post comments here. Can't quantify it beyond that, but those comments, however many or few they were, will likely go. My further impression is that the sizable majority of commenters did not use or link Google+ when posting comments here but have posted comments through ordinary Blogger accounts or just using their name/pseudonym or as 'anonymous'. Those comments will stay.
