Seventy years ago, as a sixteen year old Freshman at
Harvard, I sat in the newly opened undergraduate Lamont Library and listened to
a recording of Christopher Fry’s comedy The
Lady’s Not For Burning. I was
impossibly young and irredeemably romantic.
I loved it.
I have just pulled up the text of the play on my computer
and read it straight through. Tears came
to my eyes. I love it still.
