OFF TO SF
I am leaving this morning for San Francisco to see my son, Patrick, and his family [including Samuel, 8, and Athena, 6.] I shall be back very late Sunday night, so blogging will recommence on Monday. By then, Scotland either will or will not have chosen to break free from the United Kingdom. This one is very big for NotHobbes.

Hope you're enjoying the trip!
Perhaps you could say something on the suggestion that Marx employs the LTV ironically (http://slackwire.blogspot.ca/2014/09/piketty-and-money-view-reply-to-mrmister.html).
Seems implausible to me, but I'll also confess that I'd never even entertained its possibility until just now, so maybe it will grow on me.
Since you've written interesting things on irony and the LTV in Marx, maybe you'd indulge us (me) in taking this up?
Despite losing, we can be immensely proud of our efforts, for 1.6 million Scots voted for independence. Tellingly, the majority of those votes came from the areas suffering the worst social deprivation and income inequality. An interesting, and for me an uplifting demographic statistic to the vote is that whilst the 'grey' vote saved the union, the younger voters were in favour of independence. We have failed to secure their future but have given them a glimpse of what might have been. For fifteen precious hours, the sovereign will of the Scottish people was all that mattered
A beacon has been passed from one generation to the next and the fight goes on.
They will prevail!
SAOR ALBA!
