Readers of this blog will, I am sure, all agree, that I am a nice guy -- easy-going, friendly, slow to anger, an all around swell fellow. But I have my limits, and I have finally had it with Paul Krugman's sucking up to Hillary Clinton and his ceaseless attacks on Bernie. I mean, I understand why. Clinton is no threat at all to the established arrangements that Krugman makes a great show of questioning but which he really cannot stand to see threatened. Bernie, despite all his flaws and inadequacies, really is stirring up anti-capitalist emotions that no Nobel Laureate in Economics can countenance. But I have had enough. I am going to remove the link to Krugman's blog from my command line in Google Chrome. That will leave him with only a zillion followers and "friends," so he probably won't notice, but I have my pride.
There, I have done it. Now I can look at myself in the mirror each morning. I feel so much better.

I already did the same as well as removed him from my rss feed. Mark Thoma is very close to receiving the same fate...
My guess is that Krugman's primary loyalty isn't so much to neoliberalism or even to capitalism, but to technocracy.
Look how he begins the column with a sentence about "liberal wonks", that is, technocrats, being skeptical of Sanders.
What scares Krugman is that Sanders is leading a movement from below, with mass support.
For people like Krugman no one without a Phd or a law degree from an elite university counts.

I listened to the interview, which according to Krugman, shows that Sanders is only capable of answering with slogans.
At several points Sanders, like any person with normal intellectual humility, says that he doesn't know the answer to certain questions. Is a presidential candidate supposed to have memorized Wikipedia?
Someone who answers with slogans, say, Trump, would have had a pat and superficial reply to all the questions.
Now Sanders was not aware that the NY subway system no longer uses tokens, but is that so strange for someone who lives in Vermont and works in Washington?

In his debate with Marxist Alex Callinicos, Krugman did admit he had no definition as to what capitalism actually was....
I think Krugman's loyalty is to Krugman, perhaps as Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers.
That has always been my suspicion, Jerry.

Bravo, Robert. I had liked some of Krugman's identification with Kalecki as to why Keynsian policies could not be applied to get us out of depression. And now he belittles the one candidate proposing repairing water purification, building bridges, and the like as a way of providing jobs. A fool or a hypocrite.
I cancelled my subscription to the Times over their insane campaigning for Hillary.
