Since my complaints about my back elicited both sympathy and, sadly, stories of your own back troubles, I think I owe it to my readers to report that I seem to be on the mend. Not yet able to resume my morning walk, but no longer as desperate as I felt the first day. Walking upright is not anatomically natural, and I suspect proto-humanoids have been paying the price for several million years.
On another matter entirely, I have found during this unhappy time that it is completely impossible to make a cat feel guilty or even sympathetic. Dogs yes, but not cats. I suspect there is a deep life lesson there, but I choose not to heed it.

My sister recommended to me about a year ago something called, "CBD oil"---it's a marijuana extract absent THC. I was, ofcourse, derisively skeptical at first (just another snake-oil for chronic joint pain). But after taking it for four months I declare myself an enthusiastic convert. I can now work a six hour day relatively pain-free. My cat, Opal, is now 14 years old. She's taken, now, to sleeping in her cat-litter box. What this portends I'm not sure. But I do know that if Trump is re-elected in 2020, I shall certainly join her.
Is there room for me?
Opal is far too arrogant and elitist, even in her senescence, to share her box with a couple of commoners like us. Joe Scarborough again, recently, mis-attributes the rise of Isis to Obama's alleged "pre-mature" withdrawal of our troops from Iraq. But the time-table for withdrawal was negotiated under the Bush administration, as part of a three-pronged approach to de-fusing the Sunni uprising. The other two prongs: 1.) a massive, temporary, troop surge on our part and 2.) The (reckless) distribution of billions of dollars of raw cash to Sunni "leaders" and militias (see Paul Bremmar's evasive testimony before Congress about just this policy; Bremmar himself admitted to "supervising" the distribution of over nine billion dollars---much of the money "officially" unaccounted for). The rise of Isis, in other words, was almost exclusively enabled by Sunni cash reserves. The wretched host of MSNBC's, "Morning Joe", unfortunately, is not the only cable-news hack perpetuating this lie about Obama policy.
