AS USUAL, I WAS WRONG

Just in:  Bolton says he will testify if subpoena'd without first getting a court ruling.  Why?  Does he think Trump is going to screw up the launching of a war with Iran and make that policy option permanently toxic?  Obviously there is much I do not understand.

Well he is indeed a deranged Hawk but maybe he is not totally devoid of principle. He may for instance be loyal to his former number two. Dr Hill.

Or, like most people, he is less committed ideologically than emotionally, and he by now hates Trump.

There is any easy way to test Bolton's personal loyalty and his presumed civic virtue - subpoena him to appear before Schiff's committee. If he shows up and is forthcoming, fine. His testimony can be put in the record at trial. If he doesn't show up or pleads executive privilege, hold him in contempt with fines and the threat of imprisonment.

Finally, should the Senate dismiss the charges, then attack republicans for being cowards, afraid of doing the right thing, or corrupt jurors who were bought off by Trump PAC money. The campaign should be ready to go the day after the vote. The slogan should be phrased so as to implicitly criticize ones opponent and invites listeners to draw their own conclusion. For example: "If you want honest government," or "If you want a senator who will uphold the oath of office," followed by "you know who to vote for."

Sure, Bolton is agreeing to testify, but at the same time, he knows the Senate probably won't force him to do so.
