THE OLD BOY HAS STILL GOT IT

I started today preparing my first lecture on Book I of Hume's Treatise, for videotaping February 5th.  As I was typing the outline of my opening remarks, a lovely idea struck me regarding Hume's relation to Kant.  It was an idea that had not occurred to me in the 67 years since I first formulated my rather original and counter-intuitive story about their philosophical relationship.  So these lectures will not merely be a stroll down memory lane.

Of course you still got it.

I'm 73 myself and I realize that one of the greatest fears that we have as we age, probably a more intense fear than that of death, is of losing our mental powers.

However, you write several well-constructed, often witty, generally insightful posts weekly; you give classes that are well-received at Columbia University and you are invited back to give more classes the next year; your online lectures on complex philosophical topics are something of a minor hit among philosophy students, all of which is fairly solid evidence that you still got it.

In my opinion, THIRUKKURAL, a collection of some 1330 couplets in Tamil is the best ethics book from ancient times.

I'm so excited! You're lectures on Kant made me be able to actually come to grips with him, and that for sure, is something very very rewarding.
Thank you again.
