Far be it from me to offer tactical advice about the House of Representatives to Hakiem Jeffries or Nancy Pelosi, but it occurred to me that if the Democrats can live with the candidate who emerges from the Republican caucus meetings as the majority choice of the Republicans, they can put him over the top in the House vote simply by all choosing to vote present. The Republicans would then be in the uncomfortable position of having elected as Speaker the person that a majority of them chose, with no votes from the Democrats.
Just a thought.

For that to happen I would expect understandings in respect to shutdowns and Ukraine.
There is no indication that republicans can rule, and any deal with Dems will sink any Republican speaker. The only way out I see is a ,unity government. There are, apparently, no “profiles in courage” among the 8 or so not insane republicans so more insanity to come.
Of course Republicans can't rule but Dems only need five Reps and there are scads of low and no-show six figure jobs in the private sector (after all, there is life after DC) . The Republican Party can't continue like this much longer.
Meadows seems to be flipping.
