MILESTONES, OR AT LEAST PEBBLES

Today is my eighty-fourth birthday.  Yesterday I had an MRI on my spine and brain.  If the test confirms that I have a spine and a brain, then I shall continue to fight for justice and equality for a good many more years.  I have decided, provisionally, to slow down when I hit one hundred, but that could change if the times call for it.

Let me take this opportunity to thank all of you who have followed this blog for the past nine years, either commenting or lurking [as I believe the current cant has it].  You have all kept me young in spirit, if not in years.

Organize!

Happy birthday. Feliz cumpleaños.

May this year of your life be a great one for you and a bad one for Donald J. Trump!

Happy birthday and best wishes for a pleasant, productive, peaceful, creative, and healthy year ahead with many political victories and the disquiet of your adversaries.

From a sometimes commenter, a constant lurker, and a perpetual appreciator.

Professor Wolff --

I want to take this opportunity to thank you for what you do. When I first discovered that you had a blog (back when you were a still a strapping 76 years old) it has continued to provide me with ongoing daily inspiration. Since my days as a UMass undergrad, I continue to look to you (as well as Noam Chomsky and others) as not simply academic mentors but life mentors (since I take this stuff seriously). My hope: Don't ease up at 100. We need all the inspiration and motivation we can get -- especially as we all age along with you everyday. I think that it is a safe bet that most readers of this blog would agree with me. Our best choice is to keep moving forward. Keep fighting for justice, keep learning, keep up the struggle. Although the struggle will continue after we are gone, we can still contribute something now. That is one of the many lessons I have learned from you. There are still people out there who need to learn. More people to teach. Your voice matters. Thank you.

I live in a small village in northern Italy and Marx's characterization of village life, I'm sad to report, is not too far off. Consequently, your blog is a life line. That it is funny, varied, and that you are approachable apart from being a teacher makes your presence, in my computer at any rate, not unlike a wonderful gift. Happy birthday. J

Many happy returns of the day, Professor. Thank you for this blog; while I may not comment as frequently as some of your readers, I deeply appreciate your writing, and always eagerly anticipate your next post!

Thank you for your many contributions to social justice. And your philosophical ruminations are an intellectual treat. We will know the truth, and the truth will make us free. Maybe. Old Hungarian proverb: He who tells the truth best have one foot in the stirrup.
