There is a lovely scene in The Sting when Robert Redford, a two-bit grifter, goes to see the legendary Paul Newman. who is hanging out in a whorehouse, to find out how to play the big con. After sobering up, Newman tells Redford, "you won/t get everything, but you will have to be satisfied with what you get."
I have always considered that wise advice in politics as well as in grifting.
Guilty on all counts is something. It is not everything I want, but I will have to be satisfied with that. It is pretty good!

It made my day. The Nationals beat Atlanta and Trump was convicted. Best 24 hours I've had in a long time.
After all this, if Trump is elected, you can make a very good case for misanthropy.
I can understand why Trump was elected in 2016. Many people might have seen him as an alternative to business and politics as usual, that is, Hillary Clinton.
But by now, if voters are incapable of seeing who Trump is and what he represents, how low, corrupt and dishonest he is, why worry about them?
Take care of your families, of your close friends, of yourself. Read good books, listen to good music.

The message from everyone - except Biden- needs to be that of you vote for Trump, you're voting for a felon. That won't help with the true believers. But cops, and prison guards, and ex-military folks, and your uncle Joe who isn't all that sophisticated politically but doesn't like all the PC stuff, aren't going to want to vote for a convicted criminal.
I was on a Zoom call so I had the TV muted and watched the closed caption. An excerpt:
"Little things like our kids can have a Little League game anymore because you have tents and migrants living on the fields. That is the least of it. People are taking over our luxury hotels, migrants. Yet, our veterans, our great veterans, are living on the streets like dogs, they are living on the streets. But migrants are living in luxury hotels in cities all over our country run by Democrats."

We should keep in mind that Trump was long an object of mockery and derision in the financial press, etc. and was facing yet another bankruptcy when Mark Burnett cast him as a savvy and successful businessman in a reality TV show. Cross promotion on the network led to spots on serious programs like Morning Joe. That reality TV is a thing is a sad comment on our species.
The "people" didn't choose Trump in 2016 - Clinton did win the popular vote. Comey, the NYT, and our ridiculous Electoral College did that.

All morality, in fact all of human social & political dealings are based on feelings of superiority and inferiority. If you don't show signs of inferiority to family members, but only signs of superiority, especially where it matters, that relationship will soon disintegrate. If you don't show signs of inferiority to a judge & their court, you will have a case with the odds stacked against you.
At another angle of this, if you possess a trait that another person feels they are far superior to, especially if they feel it is abominable, they will not like you, they will not shake your hand, & definitely they will not vote for you.

R, too many of our often militarized police would welcome the right kind of felon - recall the small group of Michigan sheriffs who stood behind Trump at a recent campaign event. Most military officers respect the constitutional order hence Tuberville's hold on GO promotions. A Trump DOD would vet promotion lists for political reliability.

I totally agree. If people don't act like they're smarter (or better) than anyone about anything, I believe they project more love than hate. However, I believe it's one of the easiest things to forget in a conversation no matter who the person your talking with happens to be.
